Track the awesome Alaskan brown bear one on one with renowned bear biologist Derek Stonorov in Alaska’s stunning Katami region.
You will fly from the scenic town of Homer to the Katami peninsula by Beaver floatplane and land on a high mountain lake where you will pitch your expedition base camp.
Walking out each day Derek will teach you how to track, approach, observe and from a safe distance co-exist with one of the biggest predators on the planet as they fish for salmon. Your personal expediton chef will prepare wholesome cooked breakfasts and evening meals and prepare you a nutritious packed lunch for your day in the field.

Derek is one of the most respected bear biologists in the world and his team of bush pilot and camp cook will make your stay in the Katmai unforgettable.
From July 2007 we will be offering 3 new locations and dates for our camping safaris; the first and most spectacular is to Chenik, 8 miles north of the famous McNeil River sanctuary from the 10-15th of July. This is Derek's favourite bear viewing location and you will be able to observe the 15-30 resident bears from close quarters all day long.
The next trip is at Mirror lake from the 20th July -25th, and the third is at Funnel creek from 1-6th August.
For the end of season salmon glutt we can arrange a final expedition from the 18th August.

Suzi and i have worked with Derek in Alaska since 2001 and we can safetly say no where else on earth can we guarentee you such spectacular interactions with 1000lb predators!- life changing stuff.

If you dont fancy camping from June 2008 Derek and Olly Suzi expeditions are also offering the exclusive chance to view these mighty predators from a rugged live-a-board 100ft expedition vessel.

Departure would be out of Homer by Beaver float plane where we would land on the ocean in a sheltered cove and join our vessel.

Our unique access to bears would be unlimited and from both custom tender and numerous coastal paths.

This will be an amazing opportunity to view and interact with the bears from the ocean side of the Katmai. Please view our June 2006 web site"news" item or "Bush Telegraph" or email us for more information on this unique 7 day expedition.
