Family expeditions
A note from Olly;
For the first 12 years of our collaboration we were free and for the most part we were single. Then in 1999 something strange happened -Suzi gave birth to a baby daughter. At first I somewhat selfishly thought it was the end of our world- every one knows kids, big scary animals and remote environs don’t mix- right?Well- how wrong I could have been.
Three expeditions to Nepal, Mongolia and the Arctic with Suzi and her young family later I also became a proud father and having witnessed Suzi’s bold lead I soon became a convert to her doctrine- “have kid will travel”.
With the advent of a jungle expedition to Borneo I was to learn extreme travel with our respective kids and partners was not only possible- it could be fun- in fact the most rewarding fun we had ever had in the bush.
Now before I get carried away it is important to add a note of caution- some expeditions are more suitable than others- our recent big ocean adventure to Antarctica aboard a small cramped sailing boat might not be the best place to see whether your family is suited to the trials of expedition life.
Based on our experience and that of our expert guides, many of which have families in the bush and as parents understanding the challenges of travelling with the kids we are sure of one thing- if you too are bored of mundane beach holidays then a magical winter dog-sled adventure in Swedish Lapland
or a kid friendly safari with local tribes peoples in East Africa might be just the answer to your family holiday dilemas.
