The Legend of the Lion Man

A week in Mkomazi and Kora reserves with predator conservation legend Tony Fitzjohn.

Tony Fitzjohn worked with George Adamson (of Born Free fame) and his lions for 20 years. When George was brutally murdered in 1989, Fitzjohn was invited by the Tanzanian government to help save the dwindling wildlife of Mkomazi on the Kenyan/Tsavo border.
Today George's legacy lives on through Tony's tireless work. Both Mkomazi and Kora in Kenya are, thanks to Tony and George, gazetted national parks.

Tony is the world's leading voice on the relationship between man and big cats and the essential dynamic needed to preserve the predators of East Africa.

You will be met by Tony at Kilamanjaro airport, in Arusha, Tanzania before embarking on a 3 hours drive into the Mkomazi national park and on to tonys camp deep inthe park.
Over the next days Tony will guide you in his familiar and gregarious way around the key conservation elements of his conservation projects. You will learn about and interact with African wild dogs, black rhino and track the wild offspring of the Adamson lions in Kora.
You will be hosted in comfortable Safari tents at Tony's camp in Mkomazi and he will fly you to Kora to visit Georges renovated camp. Once in Kora you will get out into the bush on foot, tracking lions along the dried river beds and spotting game on a beautiful rubber boat journey down the Tana river.
