In September 2006 I travelled with BBC award winning underwater photographer of the year; George Duffield (whose amazing shots you see here) and documentary film maker Rupert Murray to the remote island of Mounu in the kindom of Tonga. Our hosts Alan and Kirsty Bowe live on a small desert island, ringed with white sandy beaches, dense coconut palms and azure coral reefs.

Each day we cruised in their bespoke whale-diving tenders out into the archipeligo in search of the massive humpback whales and their young calves.

Between the months of July and October the humpbacks come to Tonga to give brith and feed before the long journey southwards for the short Antarctica for the summer.
Here is a brief visual diary of our adventure.
We are now taking bookings for the island of Mounu for July-October 2007. If you would like to go in search of these magestic mammals, staying on your own desert island with 4 wonderful handbuilt luxury cottages, great food and cocktails (total of 8 maximum on the entire island), with expert guides, Alan and Kirsty and Tongan guide Lolli
then please do drop us a line. The island is booking up fast for 2007 so if you would like any more information about this expedition please get in touch now.
